Crystal Healing and Crystal Divination have a long history of being used by shaman, healers, wise women and priestesses for contacting spirit helpers and guardians. From as far back as Atlantis and Lemuria crystals have played an important role in maintaining spiritual connection to source. Many healers today will still tell you that there is loads of information to be found inside the world of the crystals...that the crystals may in fact be where our guardians and ancestors have stored information for us to find when we are ready to tune into the earth and our own souls to learn the lessons contained within.
A simple precaution to those who are new to crystals and crystal healing: Crystals can be much like a regular medication in that some may cause adverse effects when combined with others. It is very important that the new crystal user not try to use to many crystals all at once, but to instead find the one or ones that are right for him or her. If at any point the use of any particular crystal results in effects you are not comfortable with, by all means, stop using the crystal. If you have to gift it to someone else, but if it doesn't work for you don't try to force anything. Forcing only makes things worse.

Where/How can I get a crystal that is free of nasty energy?
More often than not you can find a wide variety of crystals in Crystal and Rock shops, some bead stores, most any "witchy" or spiritually eclectic stores. Often the people who work in those stores can help you find the best crystal for you and may know of other crystal connections if there is something specific you are looking for. There is also the option of going to different crystal and gem mines that can be found all over the world. Many of these mines allow visitor access where you can rent tools or bring tools of your own and actually mine your own crystals.
All the crystals in the stores, or that people may offer have some kind of energy with them already... something the crystals picked up along the way... sometimes it's good energy sometimes it's icky and needs to be dealt with for best use of your crystals. Any crystal you get can be cleansed after you get it. There are countless techniques you can use to do this that are all pretty easy to do. You can do this with water and visualization (seeing the water transmuting all the icky energy into unconditional love). You can set the crystal in the sunlight or moonlight (crystal pending) for a day/night and let the sun/moon do the work. Leaving the crystal sitting on a patch of Earth will help ground your crystal and clean up icky energy. You can use incense smoke to cleans crystals, using a sage smugger on them works too. You can do it the really easy way and just use visualization to transmute any icky energy into unconditional love too. Simply focusing the kind of energy you would like your crystal to transmit will do the trick. Don't forget to thank your crystals for all the help they bring you. Does it do anything negative to a crystal to say, put a hole in it for a necklace, or bind it in leather for wearing?
There are some who will say yes but what I get from the crystals is that they love it because they know that means they will be with us longer and that they will be more than just a thought now and then. I have a mix of each in my collection, rough ones, cut and polished ones, ones made to beads, some with hoops attached... All of them know they are loved and transmit love no matter what shape they are in and they are more than happy to share that love with any and all who accept it. I even have one that started off as a flourite wand but it had been knocked off its shelf and the crystal was actually happier being broken in two because there was more of it to be spread around and loved that way. They will find a way to let you know how they are meant to be utilized to best help our processes. The ones I wear (mostly in bead form) are more charged because they are worn and utilized more than the ones I keep around the house to balance the energy. They all get daily interaction but the ones I wear I fiddle with when I'm thinking, talking with people or any time I feel a need to regroup a little before tackling my next challenge. I have not come across a crystal that did not love to be interacted with, even if the interaction means putting a hole through it. They all have their own unique charge/energy, like their own soul if you will, and they are all eager to help us however we will allow them to. Think of crystals as Mother Earths way of sending us some love and reminding us that no matter what happens or how things may seem there is always something beautiful in the making. And what momma isn't happy when her babies are proud of the presents she's offered her kiddos?! That same wonderful love comes through the crystals, no matter what shape they take.
