A Little More About Cody
Hmmm...
Well I left this little hick town of 9k people in 2000. I had won a trip to the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas just prior to leaving town and I would like to think that the small taste of something better left me yearning for more. It was a VERY fast start to the roller coaster life I have lived.
In the week that I spent in Las Vegas I Stayed in the Presidential Suite at the MGM Grand. It's all a little fuzzy around the edges for like I stated earlier this happened in 2000 and I was 23 at the time. Not to mention I was not aware that alcohol flowed like fresh water off a glacier. Sitting next to Mike Tyson and ZZ Top and talking with Snoop Dogg, eating lunch with the Ruff Ryders and Eve, all went by in a flash.
On my return to said hick town I found my life had lost its shine and flavor. So I did what anyone would do at this point and grabbed a map of the United States, opened it up, closed my eyes and put my finger down. Just so happened to be Medford Oregon that I was touching. So without further ado I set out to find the turtle wax of life. Boy was I unprepared for the massive onslaught that is a drug using, never sleeping, very angry town. Not to say that Medford does not have good points. I just happened to look in all the wrong places.
So 2 years of working for Sprint and other company's let me know just how the world we were born into was shaped and molded into the perfect debt trap. It also taught me another important lesson, without the bitter the sweet just is not as sweet.
One morning at 3 am I woke and decided to sell everything I had accumulated in Medford and travel the country. I sold all 5 vehicles, all items in house and such. With the money I bought a conversion van, built a bed in the back, installed running water and toilet, and I hit the road. I spent the better part of 6 months touring the country, visiting every state and staying for a while if I liked what I saw. But as all things must, it ended and I had 2 choices. Go to where Barnum & Bailey circus were performing and hope they hired from the road OR end my tour in Las Vegas were I could find a job and at least re-up my cash flow. I was Vegas bound :-).
After 6 months of living in the most crime and grime infested piece of dirt on this planet I decided to move back to Medford for my family had followed me there in 2000 and still reside there to this day. I decided to give Wild land Firefighting a go and stuck with it for 5 years. When not on a fire, I was in the classroom to advance my career. When all was said and done I was certified as a Strike Team Leader, meaning I was in control of 5 like units (such as 5 hand crews) so in a sense, 100 people. At this point when I was not on a fire, I was the new fire fighter class instructor. But as all good things do, once again, it ended suddenly. Apparently the ENTIRE time I have been training under my instructor who by the way certified over 50,000 national guard and other firefighters, he had been under a secret investigation by the government, go figure, and they found his paperwork to be faulty. So that voided ALL certificates he had issued therefore returning me to grunt in 20 seconds. But keeping my chin up is something I can do even staring into the face of death, so this was just another instance of getting kicked off the ladder.
I found an amazing woman and tried to settle down in Medford. When I found out I was to be a new father the first thing we thought of was that our child was not going to be raised in a town full of hate and drug use. So back to Crescent City we went to raise our daughter in the peaceful, if not boring as hell, town of less people than when I started this story. But the thing about boring is that it's also (mostly) safe.
Then we fast forward to the present. We enjoying raising our daughter here for there is plenty of things to do that do not require cash such as the redwoods or the ocean, rivers, lakes and everything nature in between. My Amazing Fiance and daughter are the key to my heart. So I hope this is what BIO means for I have never nor do I ever plan on putting my past in print again. Hope you enjoyed the read.
